AAAA is a domain name record, which is essentially the IPv6 address of the web server where the domain name is hosted. The IPv6 system was designed to replace the existing IPv4 system where each and every IP consists of four sets of decimal numbers between 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. However, an IPv6 address features eight sets of 4 hexadecimal digits - which range from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The cause of this transformation is the substantially smaller selection of unique IPs which the existing system supports and also the fast increase of gadgets that are connected to the Internet. An illustration of an IPv6 address would be 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you wish to forward a domain name to a machine that uses this sort of an address, you have to set up an AAAA record for it, not the commonly used A record, that is an IPv4 address. Both records have the exact same function, yet different notations are used, in order to distinguish the two forms of addresses.
AAAA Records in Shared Hosting
If you want to create a new AAAA record a domain name or subdomain hosted in your shared hosting account, it won't take you more than several basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is very intuitive to use and it will enable you to create or modify every single record easily. When you sign in and go to the DNS Records section, where you'll discover all current records for your domain names and subdomains, you'll simply have to click on the "New" button, select AAAA from a small drop-down options menu in the pop-up which will show up, input or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the modification - it is as simple as that. The new record is going to be 100% working within a maximum of one hour and the hostname you have created it for shall start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If necessary, you'll also be able to edit the TTL (Time To Live) value, which indicates the time in seconds that the new record will be active after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply delete it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to set up an AAAA record for a domain address you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it is going to take you only a few mouse clicks inside the Hepsia CP to achieve that. Even if you have never had a hosting account before, you won't encounter any troubles as you will use a very simple and intuitive interface. All DNS records for your domain addresses will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so once you go there, you'll see all records which have been created automatically or manually and you will be able to create a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A little pop-up will appear, so with only a few mouse clicks you can pick the type of record you need and for which Internet domain or subdomain it'll be set up. After that, simply paste the IPv6 address in a text box, save the change and an hour later the new AAAA record will be 100% live. As an optional setting, you can select the length of time this record will be operating after you modify it or erase it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the standard 3600 seconds when the other service provider requires it.
