Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Started in 2001, the .NAME universal domain name extension is the sole TLD planned for personal sites only. These domains can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are popular by. At first, only 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you wished to obtain john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already acquired 3rd-level names remained running.
